I mentioned yesterday that I went to a Drink and Click at Hanovers for the first time. The bar is in a modest block of old buildings that form downtown Pflugerville.
The Drink and Click gathering was outside at the back of the bar, while inside, a band performed. Liking the color and wanting to test low-light performance, I snapped this picture.
It was May 2023, and I had used the Sony A7C for about a month, but I sported a new lens, the Sony 50mm f1.4 GM. Wide open at f1.4, even at 1/1000s shutter, only required ISO 1600 — more than enough for a high-quality image of a band performance. These small bars usually have unimpressive lighting, but a fast aperture lens with a camera with strong high-ISO performance is a worthy weapon to combat mediocre light.
With a full-frame camera, I also benefit from shallow depth of field, which separates the performer from the background.
