Cindy, Drink and Click Portrait – Austin, Texas

It was the first time I went to Hanover’s in downtown Pflugerville last May for Drink and Click. And by downtown, I mean a one-block area with a few old buildings — I didn’t know it even existed. This event marked another first: the inaugural usage of the Sony A7C at Drink and Click.

I bought the Sony 24mm f2.8 lens with the camera — an excellent lens for urban landscapes and everyday use. However, it’s not very conducive to portraits. My second lens, the Sony 50mm f1.4 GM, is better for portraits. I used it at Eeyore’s Birthday Party, which I blogged about yesterday.

I have a long history of using a 50mm equivalent for my Drink and Click portraits. Six years ago, when I actively used Olympus, the Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 (50mm f2.8 equivalent) was my favorite. Then, when I moved to Fujifilm, I often used the 35mm f1.4 (52.5mm f2.1 equivalent.) Without a crop factor, the Sony 50mm f1.4 gives me the shallowest depth of field. With outstanding face and eye tracking, making portraits of Virginia was considerably easier than in the past.
