The Efficiency of Hotel ABC

We stayed overnight at Hotel ABC — yes, that’s its real name — in Chur, Switzerland. It was a highly-rated four-star hotel next to the train station. We arrived around 10 pm after taking the hour-and-a-half train ride from Zurich.

There was a small front desk area, and as we got to our floor, we were greeted by this minimal and efficient white hallway. The modern-looking LED lighting elevated it somewhat from basic to high-tech. It’s the kind of design you won’t see in the United States.

Inside our room, it was somewhat more cosy with touches of color. The room was surprisingly large, especially compared to Paris. As is often the case in Europe, the king-size bed is two single mattresses pushed together. The room was perfectly serviceable, especially since we were just staying overnight. The following day would bring one of our Swiss highlights.

I also met my mother and sister at the hotel. They stayed a couple of floors up and shared a room. We were set to travel the next leg together. They also traveled through Zurich but opted not to tour the city like we did.

We retired to our rooms after a late-night glass of wine and munching on charcuterie.

The bathroom was the most “luxurious” part of the hotel. I appreciated the level of precision, efficient design, and cleanliness. These are not the attributes you typically use to describe hotel rooms, but they seem to fit.
