The Most Satisfactory Wide Angle Portrait of the Day

Carmen Wide Angle - Havana, Cuba

Carmen Wide Angle – Havana, Cuba

For my last portrait posting from Day 3 in Cuba, I feature this picture of Carmen. I’ve talked about the elements I like in previous posts, including a compact, non-distorted center position for the model. Dramatic stairs leading to even greater ornateness. And the flowing blue dress that gives drama and benefits from super-wide-angle distortion.

You can see the evolution of my attempts at super-wide-angle portraiture over the last several posts, and it’s noteworthy progress. Practice and guidance have unlocked some of the mysteries.

However, I still prefer my shallow depth-of-field portraits shot around 50mm. In the year or so that followed, I’ve increasingly been shooting only 50mm portraits, including the new ones I’m making now, however, back in October 2024. I was experimenting and learning.
