Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral - Chur, Switzerland

Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral – Chur, Switzerland

My solo photo stroll through Chur was refreshing. I was up early in the morning and had plenty of time to explore before packing and heading out on the train. I also had no plan and no direction. I walked towards something that looked interesting — the ultimate sense of freedom, knowing it was a safe place.

Exciting architecture and church steeples had a stronger pull. I got to the top of the hill next to Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, where I discovered that breathtaking cemetery, then I walked down the other side on a narrow curved road. I looked backward and saw the scene above.

From this side of the hill, you can see the curved road I took and the cathedral perched higher than expected. You can even see a hint of the mountain peaking through the cloud cover.

I continued on.

Church of St. Luzi - Chur, Switzerland

Church of St. Luzi – Chur, Switzerland

I noticed children in small packs heading towards school. They converged from a few directions but were headed for the base of this building. Does this entrance connect to the church above?

Google Maps revealed the Church of St. Luzi and a larger complex that includes a seminary and Theological College. The students seemed young; were they going to a college, or did they have facilities for high school kids? Chur seemed even more complete. It’s not just a city of old retired folk; there were kids, too.
