A River Runs Through It

Plessur River - Chur, Switzerland

Plessur River – Chur, Switzerland

As I wound through the backside of Chur, past the two churches on hills, I ended up at a small river. Looking southeast away from the city, it seems like a country river surrounded by picturesque mountains. I shot northwest towards civilization, complete with cute flower boxes.

With Google Maps, I learned that it’s called the Plessur, a tributary of the mighty Rhine, one of the largest rivers in Europe. The river starts nearby in the same Canton, a Swiss Province, as Chur. Northwest of the city, the Plessur meets the Rhine River.

I shot this slightly southeast from the first photo, and though it was a short distance away, it looked considerably more country-like. The water looks incredibly pristine, though I don’t know how clean it is.
