It was probably too early to serve beer, or whatever they serve at this cafe, I found during my walk. I guess they didn’t have coffee. However, it makes for a picture-perfect scene of European life. It certainly looks better than a Starbucks drive-through at the strip mall.
I’ve commented about urban and human center design, and here is another excellent example of a place done right. Notice how these four-to-five-story buildings form this shared public space like an outdoor room. They offer the delight of an outdoor space in a protected environment.
Notice, too, that there are no cars to worry about and to diminish the neighborhood’s aesthetics. The historic core of Chur is a car-free zone. It’s nice to walk around without dodging traffic and equally gratifying to take pictures without the clutter of vehicles.
