For my last picture, before I head to the train station, I feature the original Bündner Kunstmuseum building, the Villa Planta. Built originally as a residence in 1875, it wasn’t until 1927 that it was adapted to meet the requirements for an art gallery.
You might remember the striking abstract, architectural black and white I featured a week and a half ago. That was my favorite image I made in Chur, though very uncharacteristic of the rest of the city. The minimalist cube was the modern museum extension completed in 2016. You can see a sliver of it on the right.
This original structure is handsome in its own right. Though architecturally from another era, its boxy design is complemented by the modern extension. I especially like the reflection of light on the ground radiating outward and the tree shadow cast on the facade. These elements add visual flourishes to the picture.
