Exploring Station Architecture

Train Station - Chur, Switzerland

Train Station – Chur, Switzerland

We had 10 minutes until our train was scheduled to arrive, so I quickly explored Chur station. My first and immediate destination was a modern curved glass canopy at one end. I ascended to it via a glass-enclosed escalator at the end of the platform.

I’ve made shots like this before at SFO, so I didn’t break any new ground. It’s amazing how your tried and true photo heuristics pop up repeatedly. It makes me think I’m not very creative — like the human equivalent of a machine learning large language model that statistically predicts subsequent actions.

Bus Station - Chur, Switzerland

I was both amazed and disappointed by the arched canopy. It’s an ambitious and grand structure for a bus station connected to the train station — there are so many buses for such a small city. I wonder if the bus network extends far and wide.

I was also disappointed it wasn’t something cooler, like a minimalist travelers’ lounge. There is no doubt, however, that it’s practical and utilitarian.
