Downtown Zermatt Retail

Downtown – Zermatt, Switzerland

For dinner, we took a short walk downtown from our hotel. As it started to get darker, I snapped a few photos along the way. I wasn’t in full photography mode; I was documenting when I had the chance.

Downtown Zermatt is tiny. It’s basically a main street with several side streets. However, it was packed with retail and restaurants. These images are hardly representative but not unexpected.

Of course, we have high-end watches, like Rolex, that feel right at home in Switzerland.

Mammut is a clothing store that seems to specialize in winter wear. I saw many such stores, and we even shopped in a couple to get a warmer jacket for my mom. Zermatt is near the ski slopes, so gear like this makes complete sense.

I included McDonald’s just for fun. We found one even in an affluent town in the middle of the Swiss Alps. I didn’t eat there during our short stay, though I did go to one in Paris.

Paris or Switzerland are hardly exotic. However, sometimes, it’s just nice to have comfort food from home, even if it’s not the highest quality. But McDonald’s abroad seems better than the ones in the U.S., and when you are in a foreign land for a while, they even have an American Embassy kind of feel — a place with the comforts of home.
