The Conquering Hero, Rodeo Austin – Austin, Texas

I was doing street photography, documenting the conquering hero who won this prize. What did he conquer? A carnival game, of course, successfully shooting the requisite baskets. The couple spotted me taking pictures, and I pivoted — offering to make a portrait for them.

Like many pictures on the street, we have questions and form stories. Is the young woman his girlfriend? Did he win the prize for her, or is he keeping it?

I didn’t realize until later that the young man was the same person looking at his smartphone in the picture from two days ago. I don’t see the woman in that photo, so she must have arrived later.

  1. It is interesting that this is the same young man that was interested in his phone in your earlier photo. Perhaps this young lady is the reason for the interest.

From the posing the posing of the image they may be boyfriend/girlfriend, though from the position of his hand on her back theirs relationship may be a bit new.

Another question regarding their relationship comes from their facial features. Could they be related?

PS. It looks like WordPress is striking me again. I tried to post the above comment directly from your online post using my email information. When I attempted to post the comment, I was taken to a log in screen to open or create an account. So once again my comment was blocked. We will see if replying from the email works this time.

    1. HI PaulB, I like how you are really into crafting a story behind the photographs, like I do. Discovering the subtle signs makes it all the more fascinating. You maybe right. Perhaps the young man was texting this woman in the previous picture.
