Near Symmetry with Touches of Red – Paris, France

I’m still in the Les Halles section of Paris; this is my last photo before getting on the Metro. Unlike many architectural photos, I hardly perspective-corrected this image — it was close to perfection. While it looks symmetrical, it isn’t exactly. But it looks balanced, which is arguably more important.

As I mentioned yesterday, I used a 16-80mm Fuji lens, and most of my images were on the wider side. This photo is one of the rare ones where I zoom all the way to 80mm, giving me a 120mm equivalent in full-frame. That’s one of the big reasons why I didn’t need perspective correction. That also produced a nice telephoto compression, which reduced the space from near to far.

Clearly, the woman with the red pants is the focal point, conveniently walking in the center to reinforce the symmetrical look. There are also several touches of red that stand out, which probably detracts from the purity of the composition. Still, I like the picture. Somewhat disappointingly, the red awning seen beyond the archway is a Five Guys, an American burger chain.
