Behold the Grand Foyer, the most over-the-top room at the Opéra Garnier. That’s saying something, given how ornate the building is. But just look at it. It makes the upscale buildings of Las Vegas look like fakes, which they mostly are. Opéra Garnier is the real deal.
While I marvel at the design philosophy of more is more, I’m not a true fan of this style. However, the building is true to itself and doesn’t compromise. That’s what I most appreciate about it. I couldn’t find out how much gold leaf was used, but it looks considerable.
I’ve included both orientations but shot both from the same spot at a 24mm equivalent. I also perspective-corrected the photos, which cropped in, losing some details. However, I prefer images with minimal distortion.
