I noticed these giant advertisements, as you can see, in Paris. I don’t recall seeing this anywhere else. Conceptually, they are like billboards but with much more elegance and flair. Leave it to the Parisians to make advertisements sort of attractive.
The first picture is the side of the Opéra Garnier, which I have featured for the past two weeks. Notice how part of the advertising includes the architecture of the underlying building, which I find clever. I think this is covering renovations to the building. And, while I don’t know how I feel about ads on the opera house, I guess it looks more attractive than scaffolding.
I found a similar treatment at a nearby department store, mixing the ad with pictures of the building’s facade. I’m not sure if this advertisement also hides renovations, but I don’t think so. This one is gussied up with a red curtain and looks a bit more fancy.
