As you can see from my pictures of the palace, artwork hangs throughout all the rooms we visited. If it wasn’t artwork, elaborate architectural flourishes adorned the walls. I mentioned that the Palace of Versailles seems more like an art museum than a former royal residence.
This enormous hallway indeed looks museum-like and reminds me of this place at the Louvre. This gallery seems larger, grander, and more elaborate than the Louvre.
Notice the size of the paintings depicting epic battles and events. I’m convinced they were the old-world equivalent of large-screen TVs or movie theaters — a visual scale that transports the viewer to another world.
