Westfield Forum des Halles – Paris, France

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday. And thank you for continuing to visit my blog.

Between the cafes I shot at night and the hotel, I came upon this striking modern development. I didn’t know what it was, but the architecture pulled me in.

Creative post-processing added another level of mystery and sci-fi-ness, shifting the colors to more greens and blues, which worked well with the futuristic architecture.

The facility was crowded, and this escalator allowed me some motion blur. The signs on the right were a hint that I didn’t immediately process. Yes, this place is a shopping mall, though a kind that I haven’t seen in the U.S. It just seemed too cool.

I found the mall on Google Maps and discovered it’s run by Westfield, a giant mall company I’ve seen in the U.S. I thought it was an American company, but it’s actually Australian. Its French website listed recognizable chain stores, many of which also have stores around here. This discovery disappointed me, sinking the value of this unique architecture to a common shopping mall.

As I see the rotating website banner displays for the mall, I see a lot of French, which I don’t understand, except for BLACK FRIDAY. Apparently, they must celebrate this retail orgy in France now.

One travels to foreign countries for some cultural uniqueness but discovers that the forces of international big business attempt to homogenize worldwide.
