On our last night in Paris, we experienced a fitting end. We saw the Eiffel Tower lit up in pink with sparkles as we left the cafe.
I didn’t realize this is a unique color that only happens once a year. I initially thought it was purple for the Paris Fashion Show that was going on at that time. It turns out it’s to commemorate the start of Pink October for breast cancer awareness. According to the Eiffel Tower website, the special pink color replaces the usual golden lighting from 8 p.m. to midnight on September 30th. Oddly, the date on my photo indicates October 1st. It may have been on that date in 2022.
The sparkling effect lasts for five minutes on the hour. Given that there were only five hours of illumination, this view only happens for 25 minutes yearly, so I lucked out.
I called this post Farewell, Paris. However, there’s a good chance we will visit again. My wife and I loved the city; there is much more to see and photograph.
