Continuing my visual night exploration of Rock Rose Avenue, we came upon the Apple Store at Palm Way, one of two Apple Stores in Austin. I’ve shot this Apple Store often, but never from this angle. That’s the benefit of seeing something familiar from a different perspective.
Combining this framing and black-and-white treatment at night made for an image I really like. We see the modern glow typical of Apple Stores, and I was able to include the logo in a sea of black. Even the street-level shrubbery added foreground texture.
Like I often do at night, I defaulted to a slow shutter speed and relied upon image stabilization. I shot this at 1/4 second at a 28mm equivalent, which was overkill — I could’ve used a faster shutter. However, I did get the benefit of motion blur, which softened the people passing by.
