As a follow-up to the post I had a couple of days ago, I have more architecture from restaurant fronts on 2nd Street. I like the look of Sweetgreen more since it features a neon sign and more shadow mystery. However, today, we have three places for your viewing pleasure.
I like the first picture the most because of its simplicity. The second image, while festive, looks too visually cluttered. However, looks can be deceiving, and a difference in framing can change the mood dramatically. Local Foods also had hanging lights and trees covered in holiday lights, but I eliminated them by getting closer.
I shot the first two photos at a 24mm equivalent, which you will think should look wider. However, I was closer to the restaurants. I was across the street photographing North Italia, and even using a 50mm equivalent, it still looks further away. Thus, the impression of wide vs. telephoto and distance to the subject can make a big difference in compositions.
