We are looking south towards the Texas State Capitol from this new grassy mall. I read about its plans years ago, and the last time I visited, it was a big hole with much visual construction confusion. I’m glad to see it completed except for a single crane at the far end. It was an expected bonus as I explored the area.
The Capitol Mall was designed to visually connect the Capitol to the Blanton Museum of Art on the University of Texas campus, which was a short distance behind me. I’m more or less in the middle, shooting with a 26mm equivalent.
The next picture may look similar, but I moved to the edge of the walkway with a 24mm equivalent, the widest setting on the Leica D-Lux 8. The third picture shows the fully zoomed perspective with a 75mm equivalent. I like how the buildings frame the capitol.
The last picture shows the left side of the mall with a new glass office building. I mentioned yesterday the importance of these buildings—there are at least two new ones—which visually frame the green space. I’m sure the primary purpose was to increase the office space for the capitol complex. However, the new buildings filled in wide-open surface parking lots, creating an outdoor room effect.
