I walked north on Speedway from the Blanton Museum of Art through the University of Texas campus. Many buildings were generic and unphotogenic modernist structures, not even worth recording. The Gregory Gymnasium was the first building that piqued my interest. The brick texture, the ample but not over-the-top detailing, and the symmetry made for a handsome structure.
The top of the building caught the late afternoon sun, and I needed elaborate post-processing to recover the highlights. I managed most of it, but it shows that a camera with a small sensor, like the Leica D-Lux 8, might require extra planning. I should’ve underexposed more to recover the bright areas more easily. A larger sensor tends to have more dynamic range, which makes it easier to correct these challenges.
Speedway, a primary north-south route through campus, got an upgrade. What used to be a regular street with curbside parking was transformed into this lovely brick herringbone-patterned pedestrian walkway.
