The University of Texas campus has some lovely trees. People unfamiliar with Texas may be surprised—Central Texas is green and not a desert with cactuses. I especially like this Live Oak mixed with an architectural element. However, it needed something more. Enter coeds to complete the image.
Visual balance can be a subtle art and perhaps not easily understood. This photo without people might be okay, but there is a big gaping hole of nothingness in the bottom left area. Having people nicely fills the space and balances the composition. Plus, having people in the frame also brings warmth and humanity to a picture.
I used the maximum 75mm equivalent to create telephoto compression. Having the two students cleanly within the frame of the background architecture was a lucky accident.
