I went to Colorado piggybacking on an invitation my wife received from her friend. I was interested because it was a place I’d never visited, and I figured it was an opportunity to photograph landscapes. While I do a lot of city photography, I realized there are vast genres of photography I’ve not explored.
The timing wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty good for catching fall color and not bad for capitalizing on a random invitation. Ultimately, I captured a satisfying number of trees with lovely yellow leaves.
I think today’s picture is composed well. The foreground trees and the background mountains create a sense of depth, and there is an adequate amount of compression between the two primary elements. However, we are past the peak for the yellow leaves. Perhaps a week earlier, I would’ve caught an amazing sight. Still, the remaining yellow contrasts nicely with the distant blue.
