As a novice landscape photographer, I wouldn’t have thought to bring a long telephoto zoom lens. I gravitated toward an ultra-wide zoom as an essential lens. However, YouTube landscape photographers mentioned telephotos as an excellent tool for picking out details. Hence, I also brought my Fujifilm 55-200mm, which gives an 82.5mm to 300mm equivalent view. That was the right decision.
Throughout my short Colorado stay, I often shot with the telephoto, creating unexpected compositions. Yesterday, I featured telephoto compression between trees and mountains. Today, it’s something completely different.
I noticed a pattern of color on a distant mountain from Telluride. Zooming to a 142mm equivalent, I framed a patchwork that gave me a visual balance. As I mentioned yesterday, it was past the peak fall color, but it works well in today’s picture. A mix of yellow, green, and bare brown trees creates an image with texture and character.
