A couple at Mission Concepcion – San Antonio, Texas

Once in a rare while, I create an image with a timeless feeling. There are no modern clues as to when it was shot, and the primary subject has been around for nearly 300 years. Layer in a contrasty black-and-white, and you create that instant vintage feel. For the record, I shot this with the Fujifilm GFX 50R back in 2021.

I also like the old-world European feel of this image. Most people would not suspect it was shot in the United States. However, San Antonio and Texas, for that matter, were settled by the Spanish, though native Americans had been around for a long time before that.

Mission Concepcion is one of five Spanish missions created to settle the area. The most famous and northernmost mission is the Alamo. Mission San Jose gets my vote for the most impressive exterior architecture of the five. However, Mission Concepcion has my favorite interior, which I will feature tomorrow.
