I mentioned yesterday that the interior of Mission Concepcion is my favorite of all the San Antonio missions. The five San Antonio Missions, including Mission Valero (the Alamo), are a single UNESCO World Heritage Site designated as the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site. I’ve been to all five long ago. Still, I must go again, especially using my newer cameras to create higher-quality images.
The warm walls and minimal decorations are a real treat. Lovely and contemplative, it lacks the ostentatious decorations of many churches. My San Antonio series, thus far, is in black and white. However, the rich interior deserved to be seen in color.
I used the Fujifilm GFX 50R, which is still a fantastic camera with a 50MP cropped medium-format sensor. I was experimenting with a Canon lens because it had in-lens image stabilization, and the GFX 50R sensor was not stabilized. The 35mm f2 lens on the GFX was equivalent to a 28mm; however, since the lens does not cover the entire sensor, I shot the camera in 35mm crop mode. Thus, I’m back to a 35mm focal length with a reduced 30MP output.
