I have one more fisheye from the Royal Hawaiian Center, which is also a food establishment. A couple of days ago, I shot from the food court into an open atrium. That’s been the traditional fast food outlet at the mall. Within the last several years, the mall opened a new place called the Waikiki Food Hall.
The design is more trendy and hip, with exposed infrastructure and neon accents. This facility is smaller than the food court, creating a more intimate space. However, I’m not sure what the difference is between a food court and a food hall. Is it just marketing?
While I’m not entirely sure, I believe this space was once a large Chinese Restaurant called Beijing. We ate at the restaurant, which was located around the same area in the mall. The design transformation is so complete that it’s hard to believe an old-world Chinese Restaurant turned into this warehouse-like space.
