Hand Pulled Noodles Reborn

Hand-Pulled Noodles, Kaka’ako Farmers Market – Honolulu, Hawaii

I have a short reprieve from the fisheye-distorted architecture I’ve been posting lately. I’m still using a fisheye, but you might be relieved that it’s not a picture of a building.

One of our family’s must-do events in Honolulu is the Kaka’ako Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Since we usually stay in Hawaii for two weeks, we often do two visits. My favorite booth is a place that makes delicious dishes from hand-pulled noodles made on the spot. I love the place so much I’ve blogged about it twice (here and here) already. Today, we see Chef Andrew stretching out noodles in glorious fisheye distortion.

The noodle booth was gone when I returned to the Kaka’ako Farmers Market in 2024. Chef Andrew replaced it with a Malaysian concept. He indicated making hand-pulled noodles on-site was too labor intensive, and there was always a huge line of customers. So he had to do something else. I revisited Hawaii in February this year, not for a vacation, but for some family business. I couldn’t find the Malaysian booth, so I assumed it didn’t make it. This post would be a sad tale of the demise of a beloved noodle establishment.

After clicking on the Youpo Noodle Instagram, I was pleasantly surprised the business is now reborn, but as a brick and mortar. I’m thrilled, though I would have to wait until next year to visit. They are located at 1109 Maunakea Street in Honolulu’s Chinatown. Highly recommended.
