Treehouse Fisheye, Kaka’ako – Honolulu, Hawaii

I followed a familiar route through Kaka’ako to arrive at the Salt at Our Kaka’ako, an oddly named shopping mall and community space with an industrial aesthetic. The key destination was Treehouse, specializing in analog film photography and accessories. This isn’t my first visit. I talked about the store and also posted a portrait of Noelle and Atis in 2021.

The small store was crowded, and I didn’t engage with the staff as I had during my previous visit. Instead, I shot a few interiors with the fisheye and continued on my way. While gimmicky, perhaps like this entire Fisheye Hawaii series, the distortion offers something different.

I appreciate what the store is doing with its focus on film photography, though I currently have no interest in shooting film again. I’m comfortable enough to acknowledge that while I often prefer the color from film, I’m happy with the digital process. Ultimately, one type of photography isn’t better; it is just different.
