I do a lot of walking in Hawaii, which is great for observational photography. From Kaka’ako, I walked about a mile east to the Ala Moana Center, the largest shopping mall on the island. I happened upon a performance on its center stage.
The mall seems to have a full docket of performers, though I’ve never timed my visits. I occasionally pass by to see some kind of show in progress. This performance seems to be a community-focused event featuring seniors, and the one after was with children dancing. I shot from the ground level, too, and I saw proud parents with arms outstretched, filming their children with smartphones.
The view from this second level is more dramatic, with a fisheye lens capturing the stage, audience, and the surrounding architecture. The perspective makes you feel like you’re there, though with my outstretched arms, I create the viewpoint of a very tall person.
