State Capitol Atrium Fisheye – Honolulu, Hawaii

I’ve been to the Hawaii State Capitol before, and even blogged about it. So I knew of the dramatic atrium open to the sky. I used a 22.5mm equivalent lens the last time, and it barely covered the opening. I knew the fisheye could do a better job.

As you can see, it more than covered the opening and the second and third-floor balconies, even reaching partially to the floor. I’ve cropped this fisheye photo, as well as all the others in this series, to eliminate the vignette. If I hadn’t, you would see a circular border with even more width.

I’ll take the rectangular crop because it cleans up the image and is more than wide enough. The visual drama satisfies and accentuates the radical capital architecture. I applaud Hawaii for not building a standard European-influenced ornate structure.
