Llegadas Internacionales, José Martí International Airport – Havana, Cuba

I’ve purposely been coy about the destination of my big second leg of this trip leading up to this post. We are outside the International Arrivals building at the José Martí International Airport in Havana, Cuba.

I have posted many airport photographs recently from my travels, including Austin, my hometown; Tampa; Haneda in Tokyo; and Changi in Singapore. Not unexpectedly, the airport in Cuba is modest in comparison. In fact, it’s decidedly third-world. But you’re probably not surprised by this.

What’s significant about this post is not the impressiveness of the airport architecture, but rather its location. As a photographer, especially interested in street photography, Havana has been on my bucket list for a while. The airplane, however, was far from exotic. I flew on a standard Boeing 737 on Southwest Airlines. Tampa and Miami are the typical starting locations in the United States for direct flights to Havana.
