Views from Casa Alta-Habana Lobby – Havana, Cuba

Yesterday, I showed you the common spaces at the casa I stayed at in Cuba. There was a small balcony outside the doors facing the street, and that’s where I shot these three pictures.

The first picture is the view to my left. That’s San Ignacio Street below us. Just beyond the picture, another block down was the Plaza Vieja, which was built in 1559. Havana is an old city, and you can tell from the well-worn architecture.

Looking straight, you see the nearby rooftops. There are a few renovated buildings, but as you can see, most are not in the best shape. However, this was a better neighborhood, and I discovered significantly more worn structures in other parts of town.

Finally, this is the view to the right. Head down this way and you get more of an authentic view of everyday Havana life with fewer tourists. It took a couple of days, but once we got our bearings, we walked all over Old Havana. From what we were told, crime is low, and even young women walk the streets safely at night.
