I wouldn’t have expected the closest restaurant to our casa to be a pizza parlor. One festooned with retro decorations like the kind you used to see at a Chili’s or Bennigan’s family casual establishment in the U.S. The pizza wasn’t half bad either. Something that I didn’t anticipate on my “exotic” trip to Cuba.
In fact, I had gone to a New York City pizza place in Tampa, Florida, figuring that I might not have any pizza for a while. You have to understand that I eat pizza weekly —it’s my comfort food.
Our entire group sat outside taking up a giant table on a cobblestone street not far from the Plaza Vieja. On a bathroom break, I discovered the richly decorated interior and had to photograph it. The place didn’t strike me as a very Cuban establishment, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Clearly, it was catering to the tourist crowd.
