Dinner at the Casa – Havana, Cuba

Do you recognize this fish? I took a picture while it was being prepared in early afternoon. They served this as the main course for dinner. It looks wonderfully prepared, though I admit I prefer filets or chunks of fish rather than the entire body. Sushi anyone? I generally prefer not to identify the animal my meat comes from. I suppose this is a typical American preference. Many of us are disconnected from the origins of our food.

The actual meal was delicious and well-executed. I had a genuine, cooked-from-scratch experience.

The salad was fresh, finely shredded, and artfully arranged. The vinaigrette was light and tasty. I’m guessing many Cubans won’t be able to eat like this. Being tourists with American dollars gives you buying power that the average citizen can’t match.

This is the dinner plate that I put together, combining the salad, fish, and sides. A wonderful meal and significantly healthier than what we generally have in the U.S. Eat like this every day, and the world would be a healthier place.
