Obvious Tourists – Havana, Cuba

Is it the outfits, the sunglasses, or the people themselves? These three women scream tourist. Not in the American sense of being underdressed and overweight, but there is a certain air. I can’t be certain. I didn’t speak to them.

Beyond the derogatory, but sadly often accurate, characterization of frumpy and rotund Americans, these women don’t look like they were from the United States either. I didn’t see that many obvious tourists in Havana, especially in this neighborhood. I heard visitors from abroad were way down.

Of course, I probably looked even more like a tourist with my dedicated camera and big lens. I shot this at 70mm, at a sufficient distance, resulting in nice compression of the background buildings and excellent subject isolation.
