Quickly glance at this building, and you might notice a bunch of plants and even small trees on the second floor. Like a second-floor garden, but not really.
The plants weren’t placed by people or intended to be a garden at all; it was all Mother Nature. Notice also that there are no windows on the second floor, and the building looks abandoned. Randomly blown seeds have landed on the exterior facade and have taken root. This is the building I was marveling at, which I mentioned two days ago when I talked about the pastel basketball court.
As I further explored Old Havana, I discovered this kind of botanical situation wasn’t unique to this structure. While rare, I saw others in a similar state. While this building might look abandoned, it might not be. I’ve seen buildings in worse conditions where people were living in them.
