Havana Street Scenes #1 – Havana, Cuba

By any definition, this is a street photograph, but I’ve labeled it a street scene and will feature more over the next couple of days. What’s the difference? For me, a street scene has a broader scope, encompassing the interactions of multiple people or objects. For my usual street photographs, I have a primary subject. Not so in this image.

While this is taking a broad view, I’ve done so not with a wide-angle lens but by shooting from further away. I used a 43mm focal length, which is basically the same perspective as the human eye.

Why do I like this photo? It documents an interaction between people, all unaware or not caring that I was there, capturing the image. There are six people in three groups. They are all immersed in their own conversations. This picture has a similar feeling to this one that I posted about two months ago.
