A portrait in my style

Diamela on the Stairs – Havana, Cuba

I’ve been struggling to create super-wide-angle portraits, as I’ve shown you in the last two posts, though I was improving. I was creating these atypical portraits under the instructor’s guidance, whose style I was trying to emulate to some extent. This was mainly an exercise to do something different instead of sticking with my standard look.

Luckily, I also brought my second camera, my backup, the Sony A7C, to which I attached my Sony 50mm f1.4 lens. The 50mm is more my style, and I especially like portraits with a shallow depth of field shot in natural light.

I didn’t shoot many pictures with this setup since I was “practicing” my super-wides, but the few I made, I like better. Here’s an example of Diamela with a 50mm focal length and an f/1.4 aperture. No weird distortions to be concerned about, and I like the softening of the architectural background.
