After a few days in Havana, I felt more comfortable asking people for portraits rather than just making candid street photographs. Plus, the Cuban people are so friendly that they seem more accessible than in other, more impersonal cities.
I was walking around by myself this time, after getting a reasonable lay of the land. Despite not having electronic mapping services, I’ve learned the general direction of the Casa relative to the Capitol. Using landmarks to guide oneself was how we used to travel. Still, after the advent of Google Maps, my directional skills have atrophied somewhat.
I saw these kids and teenage girls and asked if I could take their pictures, mostly through gesturing since my Spanish wasn’t very good. I love the expressions I got from them.
