I quickly shot this scene; something attracted me to it, but I don’t remember what. Sometimes I do that. I see something and shoot it quickly. If I had to guess, it would be the framing of the women within the doorway.
Seeing this image a year and a half later, I like it even more. I precisely cropped and slightly perspective-corrected to create an even, off-white border around the red architectural frame. There is a quiet balance to the image. It’s not perfectly symmetrical, but it seems relatively balanced to my eye, with the man on the left and the cat on the right. To me, it resembles a still life with people instead of fruit.
What seals the deal for me is the small Pizzas sign I most certainly didn’t notice when I made the photo. Given that it’s my favorite food, the picture is all the better.
