Diamela Dances at the Theater – Havana, Cuba

I’m back with Diamela for the last portrait from this grand old theater, and we are in the audience again with her dramatic dance-like gesture.

By the end of the portrait session, I felt comfortable setting up my own lighting and creating an exposure that balanced the subject’s lighting with the ambient light seamlessly. I still required elaborate post-processing to adjust the color balance, but the resulting environmental portrait looks totally natural.

Unlike Diamela’s pose a couple of posts ago, I like this one better. It maintains the drama but is more congruent with the setting. I also had improved and noticeably changed the portraits I created a few days prior during my first Cuban session. It’s not necessarily the kind of portraiture I would pursue; however, it’s fun and challenging to create something new to me.
