My first Diamela environmental portrait that I posted yesterday was at 24mm, the lens’s maximum wide-angle setting. Today’s portrait is at 47mm, which is nearly the same framing as the human eye.
While yesterday’s portrait showed some dilapidated architecture, it didn’t scream Cuba as much as today’s photo. Yesterday was all about the light on Diamela; today is about how she fits into the Old Havana neighborhood. I made extra effort to get part of the red car into the frame to emphasize Cuba’s unique relationship with classic cars.
Walking around a character-filled city with a lovely model and making portraits was great fun. Something that I’ve never done before. While I could still do something similar in Austin. I fear that the mostly minimalist, modern downtown environment would lack the texture to feel nearly as special.
