I have another version of this picture that I almost used. All three kids were looking toward me with the hang-loose surfer hand expression, but I like this one better.

The expression and interaction of the two kids on the side make it fun, while the boy in the center is oblivious and still posing for me.

The best part of candid portraits, if it happens, is the interaction and expression of the people. There is a “random” element that makes street portraits feel more like street photos.
