I seem to talk a lot about the alcohol available at the US Open in this short series. That may be true. However, today’s image attracted me for the cheerful orange color and festive glow of this Aperol Spritz “garden”.
My wife and I didn’t know anything about Aperol Spritz until we saw this at the US Open last year. Though, admittedly, we are not very knowledgeable about trendy drinks. Now that we saw this, we see it everywhere. Looking at its history, Aperol started in Padua, Italy, in 1919. The Spritz concoction, which combines Aperol + Prosecco + soda, was invented in the 1950s. It appeared in trendy bars from around 2015 to 2020. Now it’s a full-blown lifestyle phenomenon. So we were late to the party, which is fine by me.
The cheerful, backyard-party-like setup makes sense, given that this is a lifestyle experience. My wife got a glass and preferred it to the Honey Deuce.
