I have two more pictures for your consideration.

I’m on the same rooftop garden I mentioned yesterday, and you can actually see part of it in these photos. What drew my attention was the mysterious sculpture of a man on horseback at the corner of the building. It’s facing away from the garden, so you see only his back, which makes it even more intriguing. Obviously, the sculpture was meant to be seen from the street. After doing a bit of research, I learned that the work is titled Napoleon Bonaparte on Horseback.

The bigger question for today is, which version do you prefer? Unlike yesterday, when I had a clear-cut favorite, today I’m torn. Although I took both pictures from the same spot only about ten seconds apart, changing the camera’s orientation tells a completely different story.

The first picture better shows the statue’s relationship to the garden and the surrounding neighborhood. There is a nice balance of dark foliage on both sides of the frame. Although there is a mix of background buildings, the statue remains the clear focal point.

The second picture emphasizes the statue. By removing much of the surrounding neighborhood, the composition becomes more graphic. I have a slight preference for the second photo because I often gravitate toward simpler compositions. However, I think both photographs work, and each tells a different story.
