As a followup to yesterday’s post on the South Congress Hotel, here’s Julia who works at the Lobby Shop, a gift store at the hotel. I asked her if I can make a portrait in this neat store.
The backlighting was a bit tricky and the problem with small sensor cameras, like the Panasonic ZS50 is that they lack dynamic range. The image was somewhat underexposed and the colors were not ideal. Increasing the camera’s exposure compensation would risk blowing out the store detail.
Almost always, I add extra saturation in post processing. Here’s I experimented by desaturating and adding a warm brown cast. I like the resulting feel, which seems to have an organic, earthy look.
