The suburbs are not usually where I go for inspiration in photography. They have their advantages for easy living and free parking, but the lack of density usually makes it hard to get a critical mass of visual interest. But I had time to kill.
I shot this early Saturday morning, as I waited with my son to get a Nintendo Switch. During my 2 1/2 hour wait, I made a number of photos, trying to make the most interesting image in a strip mall. I didn’t bring a super wide-angle or an extreme telephoto to do any optical manipulation. Just a simple 35mm equivalent. This is my best attempt at creatively in a mundane place.
A little glow, color and reflections. It’s not particularly moody but perhaps better than the average shot of a Toys R Us. Taken with the Olympus PEN-F with the 17mm f1.8. I even opted not to use my frequently used grainy black and white film effect. Though a little contrast and saturation in post doesn’t hurt.
