SXSW ’18 Portraits: Stephanie

I did something new during last year’s SXSW. Causal black and white portraits on the street and at the venues. Since then, I’ve done a lot of portraits, especially at Drink and Clicks. For that reason, I was going to forgo any during this year’s SXSW.

Except, I realized that casual street portraits are a very different animal from portraits created during Drink and Clicks. Outwardly, they may look similar. But in reality, the hard part of a street portrait is asking for permission and risking rejection. There’s no such fear, or challenge, during a Drink and Click.

So, with that as a backdrop, I’ve decided continue with my street portrait exercise during his year’s SXSW.

First up is Stephanie, who I met at the Vox Media event on Friday. She and two others were hard at work at the Kevita drink sampling station. During our short conversation, I found out that she goes to school in College Station but has relatives in Austin.

I used the same Olympus PEN-F and Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 as last year and is my preferred setup for portraits.
