Kirin Beer, Nagarekawa Entertainment District – Hiroshima, Japan

I came across this magnificent neon sign as I wandered around the Nagarekawa Entertainment District in Hiroshima. As I’ve mentioned often, I’m a sucker for a good neon sign. This one is bolder than most and straddling a busy street.

I don’t have a favorite beer in Japan, though I generally like them more than the standard fare in the U.S. I’ve never been a big beer drinker but have started to acquire a taste for it. I’ve even found brews that I think taste good. After some quick taste tests, I tend to like brown ales. There’s a few local Texas craft beers and some from Europe that I’ve enjoyed.

I found that many Japanese foods and the social culture works well with beer. In Japan, ideally, you are not supposed to pour your own beer. You pour beer for your colleague and they do the same for you.
